Things can only get better....

Tyldesley 34 Hoylake 3

Hoylake kicked off their first weekend of the new season, with a trip to new opponents Tyldesley. However they came away disappointed, with a lacklustre performance and a result that in truth flattered Hoylake.

The game started with a period of concerted pressure from the home team and after some poor defensive organisation and simple missed tackles Tyldesley were off the mark on what turned out to be an easy day for the hosts. The conversion was successful.

Shortly after this Hoylake returned the ball towards the opponents' line with their only real spell of possession throughout the whole game resulting in a kicked penalty by Joe lavin.

After this is was downhill for the red white and greens as Tyldesley were allowed to dominate every aspect of the game and following a series of rolling mauls Tyldesley scored down the left hand side with some more sloppy defence from Hoylake.

Tyldesley continued to dominate and again down the left hand side scored past some hapless tackling the conversion was missed but there as still time for tylsdley to score again making the half time score 24-3.

The second half started with Hoylake looking as though words spoken at half time were taken on and the embarrassment of their performance kicked in with some powerful defending and tackling. Led by some ferocious hits by Philip James Hoylake cleared their lines following a Tyldesley attack.

However this was short lived and after another powerful drive by the hosts forwards another try was ran in.

Straight from the kick off Tyldesley returned to the Hoylake line with ease and some woeful tackling allowed Tyldesley hooker to score in the corner showing good pace.

The game then ebbed away as a spectacle and in truth Tyldesley could and should have had more points.

Hoylake left the field well beaten. In truth he team was lacking any sort of cohesion on the day and looked nervous and tired from the start.

Hoylake MUST start to show some consistence in this league and start to build confidence, yes the club and team are in transition and yes several key players were missing but this was a sound defeat, with the manner of the loss the hardest thing to take.

However I can say that the players themselves are desperate to get back on the pitch and make amends for this loss, one game does not make a season and im sure that things will improve starting next week. We all know the levels we are aiming for, reaching them is a rough ride but the team are desperate to get there.
