As the club said goodbye to Peter Baldock, father of two of the club's most respected playing members and former juniors coach, the 1st XV won at a canter against an under strength but dogged Winnington Park side.
Despite never getting into top gear, they scored 8 tries, 3 in the first half and 5 in the second, with the veterans leading the way, with 6 of the 8 tries going to players aged 33 and above. Had it been a better day with the boot and had more of the wayward passes gone to hand, the final score could have been much more, but nonetheless, it was a good result with some great individual performances, particularly by skipper Matt O'Neill, Guy Byatt and James McLaughlin. The latter two shared the man of the match award.
Paul Cashin's 3rd XV put out a side with a good balance of youth and experience and registered a resounding victory against Port Sunlight, in what was to be Ari Williams' final game for the club after a playing career that seems to have spanned centuries....Man of the Match went to the ever improving Chris Young who capped his performance with a powerhouse try from all of 40 metres.
1st XV try scorers:
Andy Fielding 2
Mark Wylie
Matt O'Hanlon
Richard Young
Dan Gleeson
Ben Flint
Guy Byatt
On a sad day for the club, thanks must go to both Winnington Park and Port Sunlight for impeccably observing the minute's silence in memory of Peter.
