Hoylake 34
Dukinfield 14
In a scrappy contest, it was the hosts who ran out convincing winners against a struggling Dukinfield side who gave a good account of themselves on the day.
Hoylake led 10-7 at half time. A Ben Flint try and a Stephen Young Penalty and conversion were all that Hoylake could muster after 40 minutes of territorial domination. Dukinfield's only respite was a well taken 50 metre try from their young Number 8.
The hosts should really have been out of sight by the mid way point but poor handling in the backs cost them at least 3 or 4 tries. The frustration was evident in the performance but eventually Hoylake stretched away with a much improved second half performance.
There were further tries for Steve Young (2), Tom Selby and replacement winger Gary Hummerston. Dukinfield managed an interception score in a rare foray into their opponents half.
The positive from the match were that Hoylake ultimately came away with a convincing win, however, there is still much improvement to come but can look forward to the return of several key players over the next month.
Next week, Hoylake travel to Ormskirk who have slipped down from the top of the table in recent weeks, in what should be an interesting encounter.
