It was a great match for both teams but at different ends of the game. Hoylake dominated open play for the first 40 minutes despite a distinct lack of backs and therefore forwards playing out of position in the back line, but the pack that were playing in position did a fair job getting to the breakdowns allowing the backs to do their thing too and the half time score of 32-0 was worryingly comfortable. Trys from Prop Graham Wynn, and stand-in stand off Jay Baldock were the highlights of the half. along with a classic from youngster Connor Bradshaw, and a try a piece for the Minks/Cooke team.
Phil Jones converted his own try but that was all for the boot unfortunately.
Expecting Mossley Hill to come back fighting was not enough, because come back they did and they took advantage of a tired defence with 2 trys in as many minutes bith converted. Hoylake had a game on despite the comfortable margin. poor defence let 2 more trys in before the home side got their 2nd wind & held to th final whistle. Hoylake were fortunate that the Mossley speedsters did not make as much of their opportunities as they could have or the win would not have been secure. Full credit to Mossley Hill for making a match of it, a draw would have been fair.
Next week Ellesmere Port away
