The Warriors Stroll to Victory

Hoylake 2nd xv continued their early run of success this weekend at home to Sefton. Limited numbers threatened to effect the home side as with ten minutes to go to kick off Hoylake had only 13 players, but with seconds to spare managed to field a full XV with the welcome addition of Danny Cook returning to the fold at left wing.

It did not take long for Hoylake to register the first points of the game with a Trademark Kev Jones try, ghosting down he wing to score in the corner, (his first of 4). It was to be the first of many as the visitors defence was carved open through the centres, next on the sheet was Al Robinson, under the posts for the first of his brace, try ably converted by brother Simon.

The run of play continued Hoylake's way for most of the first half, until scrums became uncontested due to a Sefton front row injury, this did take some of the edge off the game and Hoylake's concentration seemed to falter in, what was otherwise an extremely strong pack performance,Dan Gleeson being particularly awesome at no 8 throughout the game, however the dip did allow Sefton to attack the try line on a number of occasions, and some classic Phil Brear ripping of the ball in a crucial maul certainly saved one try.

Stand in Scrum half Jay Baldock had a superb game bagging a brace of trys himself, as well as being vitally involved with many of the other 11 trys of he game.

The second half started with a run of ill disciplined penalties against Hoylake, but this soon settled back down and the points continued to pile up.

Support play was better than usual, helped by the uncontested scrums, and a break from about half way from Minks and Jones fed Al Robo for what should have been his hattrick, but unselfishly (or was it jug avoidance?) passed to supporting Lock Bruce Patterson to give him his first try of this season.

The tally at the end of play was a comfortable 75 - 0. trys: Kev Jones 4, Al Robinson 2, Jay Baldock 2, Andy Minks 1, Danny Cook 1, Bruce Patterson 1, conversions Simon Robinson 10 /11. Top kicking Si.
Next week The Warriors visit Wallasey.
