Hoylake 32 – 7 Oldershaw

Hoylake’s first real test for several weeks went without upset his weekend, continuing a 7 week unbeaten run in the Merseyside merit table. With some late changes and skipper Jason Pell taking the Hookers birth for the first time, there was little uncertainty about what would be faced, and true enough Oldershaw gave a good fight for the whole game. The first twenty was a little frantic as possession swapped between packs, but when the ball did get out passing and handling prevented Hoylake gaining the advantage as easily as they had been used to in previous games; until Matty Ross set Kev Jones up for his, and Hoylake’s, first try. Things continued to be a bit scrappy for the rest of the first half, but composure was gained and despite conceding a few points normal order was restored. The second half saw a little more rugby from both sides and the Hoylake pack grew in strength from scrum to scrum, taking a number against the head, this almost made up for the almost total loss of every lineout!!. In the end scrums went uncontested for the final 5 minutes as Oldershaw lost their remaining prop. But the game was already in the bag. The score-line did Odershaw no favours as it did not reflect the effort and performance they gave, they battled endlessly throughout the game, giving Hoylake the much needed test they needed in the run up to the game with Wirral at home on November 14th.
Next week Mossley Hill at home, Still some tickets available but book quickly to avoid disappointment.. ;)
