It wasn't the greatest start for the boys, going behind to the away team after only 2 minutes. No shortage of effort from the players, but sometimes are defensive frailty was ruthlessly exposed by Mold’s strike runners.
It's difficult to pinpoint the turning point, but there definitely was one. Rather than letting their heads drop the boys renewed their efforts. Rucks were hit hard by the forwards and, finally working off the front foot, scrum half George Cottrel was able to move the ball and release the backs. However it was Joey Ellis, from the pack, who broke free to crash over for a try. Some self belief started to arrive, reinforced when Ross Bourne broke free from the middle of the field to storm through for are second.
Mold weren't done though and quickly scored in the second half to ease the away crowd's nerves. Once again the Club boys dug deep and built some field position and pressure. Finally Harry Sherratt started to stamp his authority on the game, finishing off a good backs' move to crash over in the corner. With only one score in it the Club boys really upped their game and played some great rugby. Conversions two from Ross Bourne and one from Kieran Murphy had pushed us into a two point lead the last few minutes were spent in dogged defence before the ball went dead and the referee blew for full time.
It had been a massive performance from every player on the field. Everyone ran, rucked and scrummaged their blood to water on the field today. Joey Ellis was absolutely brutal in the tackle, showing what a you can do with attitude. Ross Bourne made some powerful runs from no 8. Brad and Ben were simply excellent in the half backs, linking well with centres Jake Davis and Kieran Murphy who always threatened. Harry McNeil was immense in defence as full back
Guys Sorry if I have missed anyone out but names will come to me ..
